Beast (reading response II)

I am a book called Beast. So far Stephen ran over a dog but it didn't die, so he decided to keep it. I have always wanted a dog because people are always talking about their pets and I have wanted an animal since I was young.

I once had a cat it was the most energetic ever, everyone loved that cat. We used to play with it all day. That cat was so fast when it wanted to be, because even cats can choose if they want to do something or not. We couldn't keep the cat because my grandma was allergic to the cat so we had to give it away.

I wish I had my cat back even though it wasn't a dog it was still an animal and it was awesome. I loved my cat, all my friends loved it too. Only if I still had that cat life would have been a bit more fun.

Beast (reading response)

Dear Mrs. F

I am reading a book called Beast, it is about a 17 almost 18 year old Foster child who feeds his monster that he found every month. This book is confusing to me right now because I think they are going to make everything fit in later.

In this book Stephen is about to be kicked out of his home because he is almost 18. so he got a job. I was thinking about getting a job but my parents wont let me. I don't know when I will be getting a job. I wont be sure because so many things are coming up. My Parents say I wont get my Learners Licence until I'm 16, so i Wont be getting my drivers until I'm 18.

I am also moving so it will be even harder getting my learners. Maybe I wont be in the place I'm moving to, maybe I might go back to Pakistan who knows? Most likely I'm going to move to Calgary because my brother lives there and my dad got a job there. I think I will be moving at the beginning or the end of summer. So I can sort of imagine being in his situation because I have lived in 6 cities 3 countries and 2 continents. Stephen has also moved a lot so i could be in his situation but im not a foster child and I could not know how I could survive without my family.

Inside my Non-fiction reading bubble.

1. The non-fiction books that I have been recently been reading would be text books. It is different from reading novels because a text book is basically information a novel is a story. A text book is different because it had information to memorize and learn where as a novel is for reading for fun.

2. When I read a text book I am usually focused on memorizing the text. I also notice myself reading over what I read before.

3. I find my way around by the index because it has all of the definitions of the words we learn. The glossary because it helps me find my way around the book.

4. I really do not have any strategies of reading my text book. Well the only strategy that I think I would look at the subtitles to help me.

5.I think the most difficult thing about reading a text book is pronouncing the words I have never seen and memorizing things I don't get.

6. I don't think that anything would help me become a non-fiction reader because I think I read my non-fiction books better than I read fiction books.

7. The purpose I read a non-fiction book is either for school or learning more information to use in my everyday life. The purpose I read a novel is for fun.

Reading response - ( Lawn Boy )

Dear Mrs.K

I have finished reading a book called Lawn boy. It is about a 12 year boy who makes $500,000 buy mowing lawns and Stocks/Shares.

I have a lot of thoughts about this book. At the end of the book his dad faints after seeing how much money he has and his Grandma says something and it ends. What I don't get about this book is that the ending just leaves you thinking what would happen next, and there is no sequel so you wonder what he did next. In my opinion the author should have gavin a few more pages about what happens next. At the end the grandma says if you take care of your tools they will take care of you. This book ended really meaningful for a not that meaningful story. This book does relate to me because it did not remind me of any experiences, in my opinion this book was more Fiction than Non-Fiction. The only part that reminds me of something is that his parents are both very smart. My parents are very smart, my mom is a doctor and my dad is a traffic planner. That is the only connection I think I have with this book.

Movie or Book differences.

Hello friendly reader of this blog I am discussing the differences between the book and the movie of Freak the Mighty.

Basketball- I think the basketball part worked because it shows that Max and Freak (Kevin) together make a great team. It shows the beginning of Freak the Mighty and it shows how they work together. It is a bit better to the plot because it makes it more enjoyable.

Size- I think the size of the characters was different than I thought it would be. I thought that Freak would be smaller and Max would be bigger. I think that the ratio from Max to Freak ruined the story a bit because you would feel a lot sadder if Freak was smaller.

Blade- In the book Blade was 17 and in the Movie Blade was the same age as Max and Freak I think that kind of helped the story because it gives him more troubles in his life so the story feels sadder and realizes his problems. Some of it didn't work because everyone was expecting that he would be older and bigger so he would look more intimidating. It was better because they introduced Blade earlier.

Ornitopter- In the book Max helps Freak get the ornithopter out but in the movie Max gets it out after Freak died. I think this helped the movie because it made it more emotional. They made the ornithopter a big part in the movie so I think it was a better that they delayed it until the end.
Tutor- In the movie Freak is Max's Tutor. I think this helped because it helped explain how Smart Freak is. It also explains Freaks and Max's friendship because they get to hang out in school too.

Remembering is just an invention of the mind

In my life I have done alot of things I have a lot of memories of what I have done before, but the thing is I dont remember the things completely and I have moved alot in elementary. The best memory i have had is in grade 6 when i had a pudding fight. It all started with tyson, first he put pudding on Joeys hair, so Joey thought that I put pudding on him instsed of Tyson so Joey threw pudding at me it hit me a bit but the rest of it went and it smashed into the book shelf behind me and there was still some left so i put on Joeys back so the pudding was spilled. After we went to the washroom to clean up we did not get into much trouble. That was one of my many memories in elementary.

Inside my reading bubble

I have not been reading alot but I started a book that I have started to read the book called Lawn Boy. My teacher Mrs.K recommended it to me and I thought the concept of the book was interesting.

I usually do my reading before I go to sleep because that when I feel the most comfortable and it also helps me to go to sleep. I do most of my reading in bed because it is easy to go to sleep right after reading.

When I read I always lie down in my bed and I imagine the pictures of what is going on in my head I usually take a pause after every couple of paragraphs and imagine what is going on.

In this book what I have not found out is why he hides all the money he makes from his parents and why did he not tell his parents who he is working with? I personally think that mowing lawns all summer is a boring idea, but I think that working in the summer is a good idea. I want to work in the summer if my parents let me because there is so much time in the summer so why not get a job?
